I have been a full time photographer since 1981. My professional career began with two years learning my craft, at a studio in High Wycombe. For the next few years I managed studios in Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Cambridge, Leeds, Derby, Nottingham and Luton.
I opened my own studio in 1987 and in 1998 was one of the first photographers in the country to make the complete move to digital photography. I had a head start over many photographers, as I was already comfortable using computers and had been using Photoshop to edit images for clients since 1992, when Photoshop was launched on PC.
At my studio, in addition to photographing weddings and portraits, my work also included PR, business portraits, publicity shots and portfolios for models, actors, musicians and some celebrities. My favourite was Sir Bobby Robson, who was an absolute gentleman. He commanded his weary England football team to do as I wanted.
I still love photographing weddings and I appreciate being a part of something so special. In addition to photography, for the past 8 years I also teach courses in digital photography and Photoshop at North Herts College, Stevenage, Hertfordshire. I also give one to one training and have trained photographers in digital photography and Photoshop. It might sound like a cliche, but it's true to say that I am enjoying giving something back, training a new generation of photographers.
I have photographed well over 1,000 weddings, won a coveted national Kodak Portrait Award and travelled around the country and I still love what I do. I feel very fortunate to work in something I love. My work has taken me from Newcastle Upon Tyne to the South Coast, although I work mostly in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
I still have the energy and enthusiasm of someone photographing their first wedding, though thankfully, for all you brides and grooms, I have a lot more experience.
